wBees Forest School needs your help to keep our PUBLIC 3k open!
New York is a city of immense wealth, yet our public daycare facilities, early childhood centers and 3k programs are unable to access promised city funding. The Department of Education is withholding funding that was promised for our school’s public 3K education, leaving many city programs with no option but to close. Schools with 3K programs have been operating without a dime even though start-up funds were promised to be released this summer. wBees has been operating on all reserves since July as we await the promised funding, and we are now unable to make the next payroll. In addition to withholding funding, city budget allocation has left our school with a $200,000 shortfall between wBees’ operational costs and the amount the city is willing to provide. Instead of the DOE providing stability to our small minority-owned preschool, it has placed our school in grave danger of closing the 3K program.
The wBees Forest School 3K program is a nature-based Montessori school serving a diverse population from Ridgewood and Bushwick. The school's mission is to become an inclusive Montessori for our community by allowing access through our 3K program. Our goal is to continue to provide public access to this Montessori preschool staffed by highly-skilled teachers and involved caregivers who keep our children engaged and stimulate their interest in learning. If the necessary funding is not forthcoming and if the shortfall is not met, wBees will be forced to close our 3K program and many deserving children will be left behind. Our school does not wish to displace any families and we wish to fulfill the vision of a Montessori 3K preschool with access for all.
Please help us keep wBees 3K open to the public! Every child deserves the best possible education that we, as parents and citizens of the city of New York, are able to provide.
We are asking you to help us raise money to ensure that:
- wBees 3K program stays public and continues to serve neighborhood families regardless of income
- Our teachers and staff continue to be compensated fairly and appropriately
- Children at wBees continue to receive high-quality, nature-based education
NYC owes children’s education programs millions in city reimbursements
