Help Us Save "Turtles"

Hi, I'm Brent.

Recently my friend Grey Story, left Santa Cruz for a new life. Tragically he was killed with a gun at a motel in Wichita, Kansas as he was en route. He was traveling with "Turtles" the cat, a feral stray he had rescued and successfully domesticated. Grey is the only person who "Turtles" had been friendly with and she's now in great peril, stranded and awaiting the worst.

We're conducting a rescue operation to bring her back to Santa Cruz.

Here's a quote from Jennifer, one of Grey's friends regarding this beloved animal.

"I am a huge lover of animals myself. I am a bartender at Callahans bar here in Santa Cruz. I met Grey at the bar where he would come in after his shifts at footbridge (where he worked with Brent) for a beer or two. When he first started coming in he would share his stories about a feral cat (turtles) that lived on the grounds of the homeless shelter. He would give all of us at the bar updates on his attempts at taming Turtles. We would all offer suggestions and advice and we would celebrate his successes. The story of Turtles and Grey was soo heart warming because Grey had grown up in orphanages and had no family. He put all of his love into Turtles until after around 4 months of effort towards gaining Turtles trust they were finally inseparable! Grey and Turtles adopted eachother. Grey started noticing that Turtles was getting heavier and sleeping more and realized that his baby was pregnant. She eventually gave birth to 4 kittens, two of which are now Brents cats, one is mine, and the other was given away to a good home. My grandson is named after Grey as my daughter is also an animal lover and she was so touched by the stories i told her." Jennifer

Turtles is now suffering greatly. She has been cowering in the corner of a cage and hissing at anyone who comes close. She is not "adoptable," so she is very likely about to be euthanized. I am planning on flying to Kansas, in hopes of bringing her back to her kittens and to health. This caper requires that I pay for a plane ticket, a car rental and a night or two in a Wichita motel. This is a sad and daunting endeavor because I'm heading to the place where our friend was killed. I'm spending my own extremely meager funds for this because timing is critical.
