Help Us Save the Life of Princess
Donation protected
Meet Princess, a 5 year old female Argentine Mastiff and beloved emotional support dog for a disabled young couple named Pavel and Katie. Several days ago the unimaginable happened: Princess woke up paralyzed in both back legs. Immediately, she was rushed to the Regional Animal Protection Society (RAPS) animal hospital, where both of her humans are volunteers. To everyone's absolute horror, the young couple learned that Princess had a spinal cord injury and needed to be rushed to the neurology surgeon for immediate life-saving surgery. Upon arrival to the Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital in Surrey, the wonderful team of veterinarians indeed confirmed the worst: Princess suffered a herniated disc, an injury that occasionally arises in large dogs, in the part of her spine that controls her rear legs as well as her bladder, leading to paralysis and loss of urinary function. The young couple, who have had Princess since birth, were then heartbroken to learn that, despite having good odds of recovery, the lifesaving surgery for their beloved dog would cost around $20,000. Had they been able-bodied and working, like they were when they got Princess as a puppy, the cost would have been a non-factor. As longtime volunteers of RAPS and lifelong animal lovers, they made the difficult decision to go $20,000 into debt in order to save Princess, and deal with the financial repercussions later.
We are all extremely happy to report that, despite several potential complications, the surgery was as successful as it possibly could have been. She survived the procedure and is in stable, comfortable condition in the comfort of her own bed continuing her rehabilitation at home with her eternally grateful owners.
Now that the worst part is over Pavel and Katie are hoping that the community will rally behind them and help them recover the substantial costs of Princess' hospitalization, surgery and ongoing recovery. Since leaving work 2 years ago due to physical ailments, they both rely on a humble government disability allowance and make just enough to cover their basic expenses and ensure that their fur-baby has food in her belly and a roof over her head. As previously mentioned, despite being disabled Pavel and Katie spend their weekends volunteering with RAPS, such is their love and compassion for animals in need. Now, they are the ones in need and are humbly requesting that you share their plight with everyone that you know, and donate any amount that you are able. The money that they spent is almost one year worth of disability cheques for them and the last thing these animal heroes need while caring for their recovering dog is to be drowning in substantial debt.
Bless you all and thank you for donating, sharing, and keeping Princess and her family in your prayers.
