Hola, my name is Pico de Gallo, but my friends and family call me Pico for short. I am a tough 10 week-old border collie/cattle dog mix who has been living on the streets of Fruitvale. Last weekend, I met my parents for the first time, Joanna and Packy, when they rescued me and made me the number one "man" of the house.
When I joined the Hamdreoni family I was full of energy and loved to explore, play and would do anything for a treat! Mom took me to the vet to make sure all of my parts were in working order and fortunately the vet said I was in tip top shape, especially after having faced the streets for so long. Unfortunately once we got home my health started to deteriorate quickly and I couldn't keep anything down. Fluids were coming out both ends and I even puked up two big and living roundworms... super gross I know!
Mom, Dad and I anxiously waited for my test results and sadly the news we were dreading to hear became a reality. I tested positive for Parvo, roundworm and giardiasis. Mom rushed me to the hospital and the doctor decided we could try at home treatment first. After two endless nights at home giving me fluids, meds and syringe feeding, I showed no signs of improvement. Today I was hospitalized and am being given lots of fluids through an IV and a nasogastric tube aka a tube going through my nose, down my esophagus and into my stomach to help give me the nutrients I need. I am extremely scared and so are my parents, but I am a fighter and my parents are staying really strong for me.
I am now asking for help to get me back home. My parents are fighting to keep me alive and will do whatever it takes, but as you can imagine, hospital bills can become astronomical. I love my parents very much and they have grown very attached to me, so getting me home healthy is their number one priority.
My parents, Joanna and Packy are going to do whatever it takes to ensure that I have a good life forever more, and I know they would be forever grateful for your help to keep us all together forever! Thank you, thank you, gracias!
