Help Us Save Pepe: A Loyal Pup Fighting Cancer

Pepe isn’t just a dog — he’s family. He's the cutest Cavapoo you ever did see.

Over a decade ago, Pepe was rescued from the streets of California and brought to Long Island, where my mom and aunt opened their hearts and home to him. Though he was believed to be a senior at the time, his playful spirit told a different story. (To this day we don't actually know Pepe's true age!) He quickly made himself at home and became a constant companion, especially to my Aunt Virginia. The two were inseparable — walking together every day, healing together, growing old together.

In 2019 - everything changed. My Aunt Virginia was diagnosed with cancer; she passed away within six months. Pepe has kept me connected to my Aunt, and we've helped each other overcome the grief of losing the most important woman in both of our lives.

Since then, Pepe’s been my shadow, my comfort, and a beloved presence in my world. It's been seven years; he's definitely getting older - his hair is greying, he's getting crankier, but he's my best bud. Despite the odds, Pepe has kept his zest for life, wagging his tail with joy and offering unconditional love to everyone he meets.

Now, Pepe needs our help.

At a recent vet visit, a routine checkup turned into devastating news — a biopsy revealed a cancerous tumor in his anal gland. The good news? It’s early. The cancer hasn’t spread yet. Surgery and follow-up treatment can give him a fighting chance.

The bad news? The cost of surgery, recovery, and ongoing care is more than I can manage alone.

Pepe has given so much love in his life — to my aunt, to me, and to our entire community. We’re not ready to say goodbye. If you’ve ever loved a pet like family, you understand how deeply this hurts.
