Hi, my name is Amber (Pedro's mumma). Pedro is my beautiful ginger boy and also the cuddliest cat you will ever meet (but only when no one's looking). He’s earned a bit of a reputation as a spicy, truck-like cat; the kind everyone falls in love with, but also feels they need to earn the respect of… like a little furry mafia boss. I’ve had the privilege of loving Pedro for 13 wonderful years, and throughout that time, he’s been my constant; pulling me through some of my darkest moments in life. So it's only fair now that I do my best to try and save him in return.

Last week Pedro was rushed to the vet with a bladder obstruction, which led to an emergency procedure to fit a urinary catheter and start IV fluid therapy. After a few days the catheter was removed and he was sent home with medication, but he rapidly declined and had to return to the vet on 26th May for a second emergency procedure. He was put under anaesthetic shortly after we dropped him off, as his condition was pretty dire, and when they drained his bladder it was full of blood, urine, and crystals. The vet believes he's suffering from a urethra spasm, which is treatable but poses some risks (with a potential perineal urethrostomy surgery looming if this latest catheter doesn't work again).

He is currently still in the vet with a catheter fitted. We visited him tonight just before writing this message and he's looking pretty sorry for himself, but has still managed to win hearts of the vets caring for him by being soft and affectionate (smoochy). When he woke up from his sedation, the vets told us that he looked immediately at his food bowl, only to find that it was empty. They swiftly filled it up and he proceeded to eat "like a horse" and get it all over his face (the cone didn't help).

The problem we face is that the total cost of Pedro's care across the two separate visits to the vet is expected to be over £6000, covering:

Like many of us, we weren't prepared for such a large bill at such short notice, which is why we're appealing for help. We’ve tried to insure Pedro, but because of his age and pre-existing medical history, (especially surgery for an inflamed stomach back in February) he hasn’t been eligible for cover for the treatment he now needs. Since then, we've been between a rock and a hard place as we weren't expecting back to back visits and stays at the vet.

Pedro means a lot to us and we want to be able to support him, but we will need some help to cover his escalating medical costs. Every little bit will help towards Pedro's vet bills, so please consider donating to help out our boy.
