Welcome to the Life-Changing Collaboration Between a Ugandan Humanitarian & a Cornell University Veterinary Student
Background
Dogs’ Love Care Uganda is a grassroots initiative dedicated to supporting dogs and their owners in rural communities where essential care services are almost non-existent. In our renewed mission, we identified Kayunga District as an area in urgent need of help.
On our first visit, we were met with heartbreaking realities:
- Dogs giving birth under brick caves or deep in the forest, leaving puppies vulnerable to predators, disease, and death.
- Dogs going for days without food, scavenging for scraps, or hunting just to survive because their owners themselves are struggling to eat.
- A complete absence of veterinary services, vaccinations, or even basic knowledge about dog welfare.
Our Achievements and Discoveries
Since that first encounter, we have:
- Rescued vulnerable dogs from life-threatening situations.
- Provided food and veterinary care to restore their health.
- Vaccinated dozens of dogs to prevent deadly diseases.
- Educated the community on responsible ownership and humane treatment.
But in the process, we uncovered another urgent crisis the children of Kayunga. Many grow up in extreme poverty, unable to afford school fees or supplies. Most drop out before the age of 7. For the past two school terms, we have supported some of these children, giving them the chance to continue their education and hope for a brighter future.
The Challenges We Face
Rescuing and feeding dogs, providing veterinary care, vaccinating, and supporting children’s education these are ongoing needs that require resources every single month.
Our costs include:
- Transport to remote communities
- Veterinary medicines and vaccines
- Dog food and shelter materials
- School fees, uniforms, and books
- Community outreach and training
With rising prices, our resources are stretched thin. Without support, both the dogs and children of Kayunga face losing the little lifeline they have.
Our Goal
We aim to raise $4,000 to sustain our outreach in Kayunga for the rest of the year — ensuring:
Every rescued dog gets food, shelter, and medical care.
Every supported child stays in school.
Every household gains the knowledge and resources to care for their companions.
Why Your Support Matters
When you give, you’re doing more than donating money:
You save a life and a paw
You keep a child in school
You give hope to a struggling community
Every contribution creates a ripple of change that touches both human and animal lives.
By giving, you become the reason a hungry dog eats, a sick dog is treated, and a child wakes up knowing they still have a place in school.
You are the bridge between despair and hope in Kayunga.
Please, donate today and be part of the change.
