On September 1st, Hurricane Ida tore through Downingtown PA, causing historic flooding in our town. This disaster left our property building on Wallace Avenue with severe damages and an abundance of repairs. The basement was flooded from floor to ceiling with water making its way about 3 feet onto the first floor of all 3 units. Our repairs are extensive including replacing 3 water heaters, all new electrical wiring, new heating & air conditioning, installing new flooring & drywall, pipe repairs and more. All funds raised will go towards these repairs, which we estimate will cost $20,000.
About our Property:
In the late 1910's, my great grandfather sought to purchase the property but was denied because he was a Greek immigrant. He was continuously denied until a family friend purchased the property and sold it to him. Once he purchased the property, he opened The Center Square Bar.
Since then, the 2, 4 & 6 Wallace Avenue property has been in our family for 3 generations and 100 years. The apartment unit was my grandparents’ first home together, as well as my parents’. Today, the property is home to El Tarasco Restaurant, Bud n Bloom Boutique & a 1 bedroom apartment. Our hearts break for these two businesses and all they have lost.
Our family cherishes this property and it’s over 100 years of memories. Our dream is to keep this property in our family for many generations to come.
Thank you for your support!
