Help Us Save Our Sweet Cat, Eddie
Hi everyone, thank you for taking a moment to read this. If you know me and Joe, you know we are obsessed with our animals! We have adopted 7 cats over the years together from the SPCA, along with our reptiles, and spider.
Unfortunately our one and an half year old cat Eddie Munster (aka “Egg”), has been sincerely fighting for his life over the past fee weeks, and we are doing everything we can to help him recover.
This all started when Eddie suddenly became very lethargic, stopped eating, and developed a dangerously high fever. He has been in and out of the emergency hospital (including multiple overnight stays) where he’s had multiple tests, IV fluids, antibiotics, steroids, and two blood transfusions. His condition has been a roller coaster with moments of slight improvement followed by sudden declines.
This week, we finally got some answers. Our vet told us that Eddie has likely developed FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis), a once-fatal disease that is now treatable thanks to a new antiviral medication. To move forward, we are starting him on the FIP medication right away, because with FIP, early treatment saves lives, and many cats go on to live full, healthy lives once stabilized.
Eddie still has severe anemia (his PCV dropped to 13%) and may need another transfusion early next week if his numbers don’t stabilize. He’s also dealing with abdominal fluid and enlarged kidneys, and we are still waiting on additional lab results to fully rule out lymphoma. The next 1–2 weeks are critical for his survival.
We love Eddie deeply. He is gentle, affectionate, and still tries to purr and make biscuits even when he feels awful. He still finds comfort in the baby sling he lays in! Watching him fight so hard has been heartbreaking, and we want to give him the very best chance at a full life. We still have SO much hope!
We already lost his brother Chucky to kidney disease which still breaks our hearts to think about.
The costs so far have already exceeded what we ever imagined - with the emergency visits, hospitalization, transfusions, ultrasounds, bloodwork, and now the FIP medication. We’re expecting additional costs in the coming weeks for continued monitoring, bloodwork, and potential further treatment.
If you feel moved to help, any amount will make a difference for Eddie’s care and his chance to survive this. Even sharing this page helps more than you know.
Thank you for reading Eddie’s story, and thank you to everyone who has supported us during this emotional and overwhelming time.
We are holding onto hope, and we are fighting alongside him every step of the way.
With love and gratitude,
Frankie & Joe Ter Keurst (cat siblings: Mooney, Honey, Bubbles, Lil Baby, Mochi, and Chucky in Heaven)
