Help us save our Oreo & Bliss

Donation protected
Edit: we want to thank everyone for their support and donations. As Oreo seems to be staying stable and not requiring as much veterinary care as before we have decided to close our gofundme early.
Your kind words have also been so appreciated in the hard times we faced in the last month. Our hearts still break for Bliss, she’s left a huge hole in our family.

Unfortunately on Tuesday afternoon Brett & I came home to the dogs eating rat bait (this was not an attack and purely a freak accident). Oreo's not only our work dog and furry little companion, she is so much more. The bond between her and Brett is so clearly visible to everyone who meets her, she adores him and frets when he's not around. She has been on heat and for one of the rare occasions was left at home. Bliss is my baby, she has been there through so many things, especially the loss of my first baby and the nerves and excitement of my current pregnancy, I don't know where I would be without her love. I try to take her everywhere I can and have been working from home with her sitting by my side daily for about 8 months now.

To say we are devastated by this is an understatement. We are putting as much as we can towards their bills but these are growing day by day. The active ingredient in the bait they ate is Colecalciferol - Vitamin D - which for our canine buddies is deadly. It causes the liver and kidneys to shut down, volumes of calcium and phosphate to increase to extremely dangerous levels and there is currently no antidote. It also takes 12-24 hours for symptoms to show and 72 hours for the blood levels to truly reflect what's happening.

In the past two days, Oreo & Bliss have had vomiting induced, been given activated charcoal every 6 hours and had blood tests done to check calcium and phosphate levels. Today they both had blood tests to check where their levels were sitting, Oreo's were still okay, but Bliss had higher levels of phosphate than normal and very high calcium levels, which meant she has had to have fluids administered via IV, is now on diuretics and steroids to help lower these blood levels.

Unfortunately, these levels can stay high for weeks, even months and she will need continue on the tablets and have regular blood tests for at least another week or two.

Brett & I don't like to ask for help, we work so hard running our business and try to help the local charities and community where we can. With our baby girl due in less than 10 weeks we are really struggling to find the money to ensure our furbabies get all the help they can in the coming days and weeks. Any help would be so very appreciated.
