Dear family, friends, and kind-hearted strangers,
With humble hearts, we are reaching out on behalf of our amazing mother, Ma. Kathleen Ronquillo. She is 57 years old, a devoted wife to our father, and a supportive and loving mother to us three. She has always been our rock, who is so compassionate, selfless, and full of love.
Last February 2025, she started to have on and off fever with cough. After a visit to her doctor, bloodwork showed low hemoglobin levels, which required her to have a blood transfusion and hospital stay. After she was discharged, her follow-up test results remained concerning, so her doctor referred her to a hematologist. By late March, she experienced easy fatigability associated with persistent neck and back pain, leg cramps, red spots (petechiae) appeared on her skin, thus blood work was done and showed abnormal count which led to another hospital admission for transfusion and an urgent bone marrow biopsy.
On April 1, 2025, the result of our mother’s bone marrow biopsy confirmed a diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia, a rapidly progressing cancer of the blood and bone marrow that demands immediate and aggressive treatment. Her biopsy revealed that 93% of the bone marrow was affected by cancer. Her doctor recommended starting treatment immediately, which included an intensive induction chemotherapy requiring a month-long hospital stay. She has bravely completed her first cycle, but her fight is far from over. She will still be undergoing further cycles of chemotherapy that requires frequent blood transfusions and regular laboratory work, thus will undergo additional bone marrow biopsies and diagnostic procedures in the weeks and months to come.
Despite this challenging battle, our mom remains incredibly hopeful. Even on the most difficult days of treatment, she continues to smile, pray, and encourage us to stay strong. Her unwavering faith in God has been a constant source of strength in this journey.
As her children, it is heavy to watch someone we love so much go through this, but we are doing everything to support her. She is currently receiving treatment in the Philippines, where the access to healthcare is not free and the financial burden of it becomes more overwhelming.
We've created this fundraiser to ask for help from those who know and love our mom and for those who may not know her personally but feel moved by her story. Every single contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference. Your support means the world to us and will help us focus on what matters most: giving our mom the best chance at recovery and surrounding her with the love and care she deserves.
If you are unable to give financially, please know that we truly understand. We kindly ask that you consider sharing this page with others and also to keep our mom in your thoughts and prayers.
No words can fully express how much your kindness, support, and faith mean to us.
