My husband, Jay, and I have been facing a couple of very challenging years that in the past few months have taken a turn for the worse. Jay has worked as a videographer in the music business for close to 40 years. In August of 2023, he suffered an injury where he was flung off the stage during loadout and fell 7 feet straight down onto a block of connectors. While he underwent treatment and physical therapy for his injuries, he never quite fully recovered his strength.
They evaluated him as being 5% disabled but efforts to have him re-evaluated due to continued pain and reduced level of motion have so far been unsuccessful. He also had surgery in 2022 to address carpal tunnel issues but the outcome was not as effective as was hoped for. He still has numbness in his fingers as a result.
Finding work at age 65 has been difficult, despite his extensive experience and skill in the music touring industry. He recently got cut from not one but two major music tours due to the current economy and the increasing cost of materials. Despite his ongoing efforts in searching for employment, we are losing the battle to keep up with our household expenses.
Just two days after his accident in August of 2023, I was in an accident that totaled our only car which was fully paid for. While we were able to purchase a new car, we were then saddled with a monthly car payment and higher insurance costs.
I co-own a small business dedicated to saving black cats, but we were financially impacted by hurricane Helene. I drained our savings to make sure the cats and the employees who help care for them were taken care of. Through all of the aftermath of Helene I have been working seven days a week without pay, and unable to draw a salary to help offset my Jay's job loss.
The stress of trying to make ends meet has affected us deeply, and we are doing everything we can to stay afloat. We are seeking support to cover our insurance, rent, utilities, car payment, and credit card debt.
These funds will help us keep our home, maintain our car—which is essential for work and daily life—and avoid defaulting on other debts. Any help will make a real difference in stabilizing our lives and giving us a chance to recover from these many setbacks.
