In November of 2022, I was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. I went through 11 rounds of chemotherapy and 30 rounds of radiation, followed by an esophogectomy with gastric pull-through. After months of treatment and recovery, I was finally able to return to work in August of 2023. Unfortunately, in February of 2024, I slipped on an icy road and broke my left hip, which had been weakened by the cancer treatments. This injury forced me out of work for another six months.
When I was able to return to work, I hoped things would get better, but a routine CT scan found a large hiatal hernia that required corrective surgery. This led to another period of being unable to work. After recovering, I developed pneumonia and have been unable to work since December 2, 2025. Since then, I have had two CT scans, a PET scan, and an endoscopy with biopsy. The endoscopy found a fistula as a result of my previous surgery, and now I am waiting for biopsy results due to a potential malignancy.
Currently, my wife and I are three months behind on our storage unit rents and risk losing our belongings to auction if we don't catch up soon. We are also months behind on our rent, and my retired parents have been helping us more than they can afford. I would very much prefer to be working and paying my bills, but I am unable to and find myself in a position where I once again am asking for the charity of others to help us get through this difficult situation. Any support you can offer would mean the world to us and help us keep our home and belongings while I focus on my health.
