Help Us Save Our Home After Car Accident

Donation protected
Earlier this year, my family and I moved into our new home, excited for a fresh start. But in September, everything changed when we were in a car accident that totaled our only vehicle. The insurance process dragged on for weeks, and while we were given a rental car for just two weeks, I missed work and our budget quickly unraveled. My dad kindly loaned me his car, but it used much more gas than I was used to, which made things even tighter. Late fees started piling up as we fell behind on bills. When the insurance company finally paid out, it was only enough for a partial down payment on another car, so I had to come up with the rest.

To make matters harder, my dad started dialysis and needed his car back for his appointments, so I had no choice but to get a car of my own as soon as possible. Shopping for car insurance after the accident—one that wasn’t even my fault—meant my rates went up, and our budget was completely shot. Our first mortgage payment was due November 1st, and I didn’t have it. Now it’s December, another payment is due, and we’re still trying to recover from the financial strain the accident caused. I tried to get help from a tax loan and United Way, but was denied or told funds had run out. The mortgage company is now talking about foreclosure, and I’m scared of losing our home.

On top of all this, my husband has COPD and needs 24-hour oxygen. He has an unknown mass in his right lung, and his doctor wants to do a bronchoscopy, but even with insurance, the copay is more than we can afford right now. He’s filed for disability, but is still in the appeal process. We also have guardianship of my 27-year-old autistic stepdaughter, who lives with us full time. I just need something to go right for once. It’s hard to believe how one accident, that wasn’t even my fault, could have such a snowball effect on our lives. If she hadn’t hit us, everything would be on track. I hate asking for help, but I just can’t lose my home. If you’re able to support us or share our story, it would mean the world. Please keep us in your prayers.
