Toxic Health Hazards in Historic Building

Donation protected
Dear Friends, Family, and Community,

We are writing to you as tenants of The Chateau Laurier, a historic building by Leland Bryant in Los Angeles, that we love and have called home for years. Unfortunately, we are currently facing a legal battle to address the dire conditions of our residence, which have become hazardous to our health and safety due to management negligence. We urgently need your support. Our living conditions have been far from ideal, aside from property damage, some residents have fallen ill, and we have even lost a dear life. Many others had to endure hospital stays, and families had no choice but to relocate at their own expense due to the sorry state of The Chateau Laurier.

This environmental hazard has been jeopardizing the health and well-being of everyone living here, including guests and pets. Our building has been plagued by severe water damage and leaks, leading to flooring problems, roofs collapsing, and mushrooms growing within them. Worst of all, we have been exposed to high levels of toxic gases including methane from improperly installed gas appliances, carbon monoxide when the boiler finally blew due to lack of routine maintenance, and even black mold. From the experts who have inspected the building so far, we’ve learned the current ownership/management team has never properly maintained or repaired the issues as they’ve arisen. Instead, only quick fixes or patch repairs have been done by unlicensed persons, resulting in toilets leaking from one floor to another, frequent hot water interruptions, lack of heat, and water leaks when it rains. Worse, all of this has left us uncertain about what toxicity may still be present within our walls and what health risks we’re incurring.

We have been working tirelessly with an attorney for a year now to address these matters and we are having success, but the legal fees are adding up. Though settlement with our Landlord would be welcome, we are aware this case may have to proceed through trial. We want to help preserve The Chateau Laurier and ensure the safety of those currently living here and those who will reside in the future. Therefore, we have created this campaign to help raise funds for the cost of our legal battle. Your contribution will directly help us in our fight for justice and a safe living environment.

Please consider donating and sharing our campaign with your friends and family to help us achieve our goal. Anything helps, and thank you for your support!
