Hello. My name is Cat Heim. At the end of 2018, my husband and I decided to open our restaurant. We live in the Appalachian Mountain area now and wanted to bring change, love, and amazing Florida-style/Bahamian/Cuban to an area that needed a "better place". We are both a family-friendly/ LGBTQ- friendly place. We see ourselves as and have worked hard to make our place, "everyone's place". We opened in April 2019 and due to poor landlords, were forced to relocate in November of that year. We found a small place to run our restaurant as a grab-n-go until a place opened up. We held on strong during those times and swore to help the community when we finally could. April 2021, we found that place. We moved in and immediately ran a very successful 2 month fundraiser for our local no-kill shelter and donated numerous items they desperately needed. Then, we started doing Drag Queen shows during late night to raise money for our local charity that helps abused women and children. Unfortunately, where we are located, isn't the most "liberal" area and the locals have tried hitting us back. On top of that, the political views in this area aren't very open to the LGBTQ-friendly/non-Christian/non-conservative people of this country, now making even our most beautiful of mountain views, an uncomfortable vacation for quite a bit of tourism. My husband and I have invested every penny of our savings into keeping our business up. In August 2021, my mother was diagnosed with stage-4 liver and pancreatic cancer. We used our business to financially help her with treatments and travel since insurance wasnt helping. Being her driver to Dr appointment after chemo session. Week after week. With me being out of the restaurant quite often, we brought in 2 AMAZING staff members who are truly part of the family. We are also firm believers in real pay for our staff. Not this minimum wage b.s.! Now the cost of food just keeps rising and frankly, we cannot keep up. We need just a little boost to help us out of this hole. We need to take care of our staff and our family. Please help however you can! Help us save a restaurant that is everyone-friendly and a safe space for all in an area where safe spaces are few and far between.
