Back in 2019, my father, Lindo Monteiro, began experiencing health issues that started with simple pain and quickly escalated. Soon, even the smell of food would make him nauseous, and by 2020, he was mentally unstable and unable to work. Over the next several years, he received many diagnoses some accurate, some not and tried countless treatments and medications. Despite our hopes, none brought back the father we once knew. Now, in 2026, my father is stable with his medication, but we do struggle to maintain him with all his medication as they are incredibly expensive and not always covered by his insurance. My father is stable with medication but he still cannot eat regular meals, stay alone, or care for himself. He needs constant support and care from our family every day.

In August 2025, my mother lost her full-time job, leaving us to rely solely on my father’s disability payments and my small dog boarding business. Since then, bills have piled up, and we’ve come dangerously close to losing electricity and are now facing the loss of our home. As of January, our home is in the process of foreclosure. This is devastating for us. Growing up, I always heard my parents talk about their American dream of owning a home. I watched them work so hard to make that dream a reality, and I never imagined we’d be at risk of losing it all because of my father’s health and the challenges that followed.

Our home is where we live and work. It’s what my parents worked so hard to conquer. My small dog business is in our home. If we lose this home, we lose everything. We are starting this fundraiser to ask for help in saving our home. The funds raised will go directly toward catching up on missed mortgage payments and covering upcoming ones, so we can keep the home my parents worked so hard for. Our home is our top priority right now, and any support no matter how small will help us stay together and continue caring for my father. Thank you for reading our story and for any help you can give.
