Meet our strong and spirited girl, Ruthy—lovingly known as Rue. We adopted Rue just last Saturday (11/23), but it quickly became clear she wasn’t well. Rue’s journey has already been heartbreaking. She was found as a stray in Philadelphia and taken to ACCT, where she was time stamped for euthanasia due to a parvo diagnosis. Thankfully, a local rescue stepped in, saving her life and providing medical treatment.
When we brought Rue home, we noticed she was coughing, and by Monday, she was diagnosed with severe pneumonia. We’ve done everything our vet recommended—antibiotics, feeding her frequently to build her strength, using humidifiers, soothing her with honey ice cubes, and giving her plenty of rest and love.
Unfortunately, Rue’s condition took a devastating turn early Sunday morning. We rushed her to the emergency vet, where she was admitted due to dangerously low oxygen levels and a high fever. Her life-saving care is estimated to cost $5,500–$7,000.
This year has already been unimaginably difficult for our family. In the spring, my father experienced a life-altering accident that left him unable to work and requiring multiple surgeries and countless hours of physical therapies and rehabs. Fighting for his recovery as a family has been emotionally draining. On top of that, we lost two of our beloved elderly childhood dogs, a cherished cat and an ancient opinionated goat this year. Each loss has left us heartbroken, and adopting Ruthy felt like a small step toward healing.
Having Ruthy in our lives, even for just a week, has finally brought some much-needed light into our lives after such a dark time. She has already become part of our family and my best friend. Despite her rough start, she’s the smartest, sweetest, and most well-behaved puppy we’ve ever met. She’s been through so much, and all we want is to give her the love and happiness she so deeply deserves.
We never thought we’d need to ask for help like this, but we’re determined to do whatever it takes to save Ruthy. Please consider donating to help us cover her medical bills. Any amount, big or small, would mean the world to us. If you’re unable to contribute, we completely understand, but sharing Ruthy’s story would make a huge difference.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your compassion and support.
