We, Tejiendo Futuros, are a grassroots nonprofit, locally run by and for the community of Panajachel, Guatemala. Our 5-year-old organization works to provide holistic and accessible education from preschool through primary school, with the goal of empowering young people to break through the cycle of poverty, and become agents of change in their community. We strive to respond to our familys’ needs and provide multifaceted support, through low tuition costs, trauma-informed teaching practices, in-school physical and emotional health support, and more. Our community has grown to over 80 kids, and many teachers and staff members.

2 years ago, we moved into our school building–finally a space that truly met our organization’s needs. Designed as a school, this space allowed us to grow our project, and offers adequate classrooms, bathrooms, a kitchen, and beautiful outdoor areas that allow us to bring our values of holistic education into practice. Purchasing this space has been a long-term intention of ours: as a non-profit, it would provide needed financial stability and allow us to invest all of our funds directly into our teachers, students, and families.

After a financially difficult year, we are asking for your support in holding onto our beloved school building. The landlord has requested this amount of money by mid June: without the money, we will be asked to leave the space. Paying this amount would allow us to stay in the space, make a grand stride in the process of purchasing it, and guarantee more stability. The payment would cover due rent and solidify an agreement, in which the landlord will not sell to other buyers, or add interest to our rent, and in which all our past (and future) payments would be counted towards our purchasing the space. We ask for your solidarity, as we fight for change from the ground up.
