Hi, I'm setting up this fundraiser on behalf of my cousin, who is currently in Sri Lanka caring for his mother as she battles stage 4 lung cancer. I’ll be managing and sending the funds, as GoFundMe isn’t supported there.

Here is his message:

This has been the hardest year our family has ever faced. My 52 years old dearest mum has been battling stage 4 lung cancer for nearly a year now. In February, we truly believed she had turned a corner - she almost beat it but devastatingly, the cancer returned, more aggressive than before.

Despite the help and generosity of all our friends and family, we are now running out of funds. We’ve scraped together every penny we could to keep her treatment going, but we’ve reached a point where we can’t do this alone anymore.

Why we need your help

Cancer care in Sri Lanka is extremely expensive, and the only way to access proper treatment is through private hospitals which has cost us over £55,000 so far. A single chemotherapy session now costs around £1,500, and my mum has also had to endure several hospital stays to treat infections that arose during her treatment - piling on more medical bills.

We’re doing everything we can, emotionally and financially but now we’re desperate & I would not be reaching out like this if we weren’t truly in need. I refuse to give up on her - she’s still fighting and so are we.

Although my mum and I are in Sri Lanka, my cousin Diane, who lives in the UK, is managing this campaign. This allows us to receive your donations quickly and securely.

Every penny will go directly to my mother’s medical care. We will keep track of all expenses, share receipts when possible, and will try my best to post updates so you can see the impact of your support.
