After spending 48 days in the ICU, my brother was transferred to a rehabilitation department in the same hospital. 20 days after that , he was transferred to another hospital, where he could get hyperbaric oxygen therapy. It is an older hospital with worse condition. But it is one of the two hospitals offer this treatment. 4 patients sharing one room, with family members, it could get very crowded.
My parents are there with him the whole time. They take turns to watch him. Initially my brother was connected with a feeding tube and/ or IVs that he would grab and pull out. So mom and dad had to watch that constantly. They sometimes can only get a couple hours sleep every day.
My brother's every day routine now is consisted of injections, feedings, acupuncture, bicycle machine, standup bed excercises etc to bring his strength and muscles back.
Six months after, now he is able to move his legs a little but not yet stand or turn on his own. Not able to eat solid foods. Most foods have to been pureed and fed to him. He still need to work on his speaking skills as well.
There is not much quality of life as far as he is concerned. But it is a comfort to my parents that he is still alive. He can recognize all of us and can speak a few words at a time. God gave us a chance to take care of him and spend some more time with him. It is going to be a long journey in the recovery road, but we are all hard working on it. Thanks again for the friends and families and even strangers who have helped
