Help Us Save Lucky The Dog
Donation protected
Last Thursday on the way to work my husband witnessed a small dog get struck by a car. He had seen a woman trying to catch the dog but she ended up spooking him into the street and it was hit head on. She then got back into her vehicle and drove away. Several others in front of him drove by the dog narrowly missing hitting him again. My husband stopped and picked up the dog from the street and frantically searched for a vet to take him to. This happened in Mission Hills so he was not familiar with the area. After being turned down by the first place he found he found another who was willing to see the dog. Some x-rays, sedation, and bandaging of the wound ended up costing us $2100. While we are not in a financial position to be spending this kind of money on an animal, we felt we had no choice but to help him survive this tragedy. With no idea who the owners were, we had to accept the financial responsibility as well as the responsibility of giving him a place to recover. My father in law has graciously been caring for the dog at his house but works long hours and lives alone. So we are coming to you to ask for help. There are a number of ways you can help us if you'd like to support.
1. Share our story! Because this happened in Mission Hills we personally don't have a lot of access to that community. We'd love to help him get back to his real owners, but with him being in the condition he is in putting him in a shelter where they might go looking does not feel like the right decision for him. His wounds need constant attention and are high risk for serious infection. If you know anyone in that area, please help spread the word! The exact location this took place was on Sepulveda Blvd and Mayall St.
2. Donate to our gofundme to help us pay for his medical bills. His initial bill was $2100, but since then we have paid for meds, supplies and each time his bandages need changing they charge us $65. He is still at risk of losing an arm and if that happens the surgery will be around $4000. These costs are quickly adding up! Anything you can help with is so genuinely appreciated.
3. Any dog lovers who might be interested in fostering or adopting this guy? As I mentioned, we sadly are not in a position to keep him at our house and our father in law's house is only a temporary solution. He just needs a comfortable place to heal. He's super friendly and grateful. I can give you more information if you are interested!
Anyone who made it this far, THANK YOU!
