Hi all. Tania here. I've never done this before, but I've also never been in this situation. My son—a young man I almost instantly adopted when I met him in Cameroon—has had a terrible motorcycle accident and could die without urgent care. It happened just last night, and he's currently in intensive care with multiple serious injuries and internal hemorrhaging.
While medical care in Cameroon isn't nearly as expensive in the United States, it feels that way—the average salary here is only a couple hundred bucks a month and it will cost at least 5K to save his life and rehabilitate him.
I simply don't have enough to do that on my own, and his family is struggling as it is.
On this end, I've given everything I can, and I'm focusing on getting him blood donations and daily meals (not included in hospital care), plus helping to assure care and resources for his sisters' young children while they stay with him. (Personal care—things like bathing, bedpan changes, etc. are not considered medical care—and thus are not provided by medical staff, but by family members, unless a person has none.)
I'll be back at the hospital tomorrow, and every day after that until he's stabilized and out of the deep end, during which time I'll update everyone daily on his progress. After that, I'll continue to update on his progress until he's walking and talking again.
Please donate whatever you can today—even it it's just five or ten bucks, whatever you can spare. He's bleeding internally and needs surgery urgently.
Offering my deepest gratitude in advance to everyone who helps.
