Çiya (pronounced Chiya) is our beloved household cat, who over the years has never failed to bring smiles and joy to our family and all the people he's met. Heartbreakingly he has become very ill with suspected cancer (intestinal lymphoma). The vet at The Queen’s Veterinary School Hospital made clear he urgently needs further investigations into masses in his small intestines and liver next Wednesday at an estimate cost of £1262.86. We are desperately trying to raise this amount by next week, so these investigations can go ahead.
Çiya is innately kind hearted and gentle, he's always loved being petted and adored. Çiya's personality resembles a dog's in nature as he genuinely loves people, and is very socially aware, affectionate and always attentive to what he should and shouldn't be doing to get the most strokes and kind words. Çiya means mountain in Kurdish, initially named so because of his beautiful fur coat, over time the meaning has grown to define what a massive impact he's had on our family. Through times of struggle and hardship he's always been there, sleeping on his pillow, or trotting around to see what's going on.
Çiya's second highest joy in life (after being a very cute cat) was food. But recently he stopped eating. After initial x-ray, ultrasound diagnostic examinations and blood tests, it became painfully apparent that he's developed a tumour on his liver and has thickened intestines. With treatment his life could be extended up to 3 years, and he could be given more time to spend happily enjoying his life with us. Otherwise, he is not expected to live more than a couple of months. If after investigations at the hospital they discover he has small cell lymphoma, which has the longest survival time of up to 3yrs, we would like to raise a further £3600. This would support chemotherapy treatment of prednisolone and chlorambucil at a cost of £200 a month for 18months. Our estimate includes the abdominal ultrasound, sampling of different tissues, and analysis at the lab, urine sampling and analysis and the catheter, sedation and hospital stay for the day.
It's been tragic watching his distress when taken to the vets, too sluggish to play or jump up on my lap, and it would mean the world to our family of 5 (plus 2 cats) if we managed to pull together the resources to prolong his life.
Every donation, large or small, moves Çiya closer to better health.
