Hi, I'm Elli, one of the directors of Helping Hands 4 Wildlife.
Every day, I pour my whole heart into rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing injured and orphaned wildlife back where they belong.

Buksie's story is one of resilience, courage, and second chances.

After a devastating attack, Buksie suffered severe injuries. Her front leg was so badly damaged that she had almost lost the use of it. We rushed her to the Animal Hospital, where the reality quickly became clear: this would be an extremely difficult surgery.

The main injury was to her elbow—a complex joint with a very high risk of infection and complications. Before surgery, our veterinarian sat down with us and discussed the challenges ahead, including the significant costs involved. As a small wildlife rehabilitation centre that relies entirely on donations, it was a difficult conversation.

But for us, there was never really a choice.
Buksie deserved a chance to fight.
The surgery was long and challenging. Despite the best medical care, her wounds became infected, and she spent two weeks at the animal hospital receiving intensive treatment, daily wound care, medication, and constant monitoring.

Today, we are incredibly grateful to say that Buksie is recovering better than we ever dared to hope. Every day she grows stronger, and not only has she amazed us with her determination to live, but even the veterinary team has been astonished by how well she is already using her injured arm.

Unfortunately, giving Buksie this second chance came with substantial costs.
We are raising funds to help cover:
❤️ R16,000 veterinary bill
Three emergency return trips to the vet to admit Buksie, collect her after discharge, and return for medication and wound care supplies.
Ongoing medication and aftercare during her recovery.

Every donation, no matter how small, helps us continue saying "yes" when another injured wild animal desperately needs our help.

From the bottom of our hearts—thank you for giving Buksie the chance to keep climbing, exploring, and living the life she deserves.

With gratitude,
The Helping Hands 4 Wildlife Team ❤️
