We never imagined we’d be writing something like this, but our family is facing a heartbreaking reality and we’re desperately asking for help.

Two of our four cats — Macken and Symba — have been diagnosed with FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis). Until very recently, FIP was considered a death sentence for cats. It’s a devastating disease caused by a mutation of a common feline coronavirus, and it progresses rapidly. But now, there is hope. A new treatment exists, and for the first time ever, FIP can be survivable.

A local shelter we adopted from has offered us the medication at their cost, which is an incredible and generous gift. But FIP treatment is still expensive, and after paying for repeated vet visits for what we thought was a simple upper respiratory infection — the same infection that ultimately triggered FIP — plus a series of unfortunate events life has thrown at us recently, we simply can’t afford treatment for both cats.

And that is the part that breaks us.

Macken and Symba aren’t just pets. They are pieces of our family. They are comfort on hard days, laughter at unexpected moments, and joy we never knew we needed. They’ve brought so much love into our home that the idea of choosing to save one and not the other feels impossible — and unbearable.

We don’t want to lose them.

We don’t want to choose between them.

We just want to give them both a chance at life.

The treatment works. We know it works. We just need help to afford it for both of our boys.
