Hello community,
My sister and I are organizing this fundraiser to raise support for our dog, Blue. Blue has been with us since 2018, and we've shared a multitude of memories, laughter, love, and pure appreciation for his presence lighting up the room. We rescued Blue from a family member who abused him throughout his first year of life. Although he found happiness with us, that did not save him from long-term health issues. He has suffered from anxiety and a bad hip since he was a pup, but we were able to navigate those issues well.
Unfortunately, we recently noticed Blue acting strangely around the house. He would sleep longer than normal, refuse to walk the normal distance during his walks, no longer drink water or eat his food. He would not socialize with other family members or even with us to play. When he did eat, he would then proceed to regurgitate, leaving him with no nutrients whatsoever. He has lost a significant amount of weight. We have tried to fix the problem ourselves since the end of June, but have found no success.
When we finally took him to the vet, we found out he is suffering from epilepsy, at risk of seizures, and stomach parasites.
The first bill was $500. The second a little over $1000. The latest medications have only done so much, and now we are expected to pay around $1-2k for further examination. We are a low-income family of 3. Our mom works enough to pay for the necessities, the oldest daughter works enough to pay her bills now living on her own, and the youngest is soon to attend UC Berkeley this fall. Despite our distance, we have all been united by Blue time and time again.
If we cannot come up with this money soon, we will have to put Blue down. This is the last thing we need as a family, especially given how much energy Blue had before the stomach parasites started to take that energy away. He still has years ahead of him, and we do not want to make that choice for him if there is an opportunity for him to live. The world has many, many problems right now, beyond a dog's life.
