Help us save Bear

On the 08/02 we were tagged in a post on Facebook about a large dog that a walker had seen laying in the undergrowth. Little did we know this was Bear, a Caucasian shephard puppy .

He was clearly very worried by people so we went out to catch him as well as scan him for a microchip. On arrival the dog walker had also come back to the location and was a huge help, Bear was filthy, soaking wet and screamed as soon as a slip lead went around his neck, we then noticed his front legs looked either broken or deformed, however when he realised we were not a threat he couldn’t wait to go wherever we were going. (Bear was not microchipped and no owner came forward during his seven days as a stray)

He went straight into the best possible foster home, and then to the vets. Bear has a condition where the bones in his front legs are growing at different rates, this is likely down to starvation/malnutrition. His thick double coat hides how skinny he really is, and his face tells a story of cigarette burns.

Bear was in desperate need of a groom but due to his suspected abuse/neglect we knew he would find the process very worrying, so we took him to Wash and Wag dog grooming in Thaxted who very kindly donated the cost of the groom. He has since seen a specialist orthopedic consultant who confirmed he would need surgery in both legs, and because of his breed, there is a time limit on the procedure being done. We have been quoted £5000 per leg, we can’t tell you how loving Bear is, he is incredibly gentle with children, and other animals (including the house tortoise he lives with!) despite his legs limiting his life, he is so happy and is head over heels in love with his foster family.

All Bear has likely ever known is abuse and neglect, he has been so badly let down by humans so far and we are determined to give him the world now. Please help us to help this beautiful boy have a life
