Last week in West Malling, Kent, we found a gentle black stray cat in heartbreaking condition. He was soaked from the rain, limping, and crying for help. We later learned his name is Archie, that he is 9½ years old, and that his previous owner sadly died three years ago. We believe he has been left to fend for himself ever since.

Archie has an old injury that causes him to limp on his back left leg, and on top of that, he’s been suffering from persistent diarrhoea that hasn’t improved despite our care. We took him to the vet, and they’ve advised that he urgently needs treatment to diagnose the cause and give him a chance at a healthy, comfortable life. The estimated cost is £300, which covers the tests and medication he needs.

With Christmas just around the corner, things are especially tight. We already care for our beloved 18-year-old tortoiseshell cat, who has her own health issues, and we’re doing everything we can for both of them. But we can’t manage this alone.

Archie has endured so much—losing his owner, struggling on the streets for years, and now being unwell. Despite everything, he’s gentle, affectionate, and clearly desperate for safety and comfort. We want to give him the warm, stable home he deserves.

update 15/12/2025 - Archie has had a course of worming treatment which the vet said he had an extensive problem with worms. His diarrhoea is improving now and we are expecting another call on Thursday with his progress. We have agreed to bring him home.
