Help us save Angus and our wedding!

***

I'm posting this on behalf of Josh and Lydia to let you all know that after going downhill again last night, Angus sadly passed away this morning quite suddenly.

Josh and Lydia are understandably devastated and still reeling from their loss but have told me that if anyone wants to send messages of love and support or fond memories of Angus, they're more than welcome.

Unfortunately, this doesn't change their financial situation and the outstanding Vet bills still need to be paid, so if you haven't yet, please consider giving whatever you can to help these two legends through this horrible time.

On Saturday 21st of October, at our combined bucks/hens party, Angus thought he'd won the lottery when a plate of delicious homemade sausage rolls was accidentally dropped at his feet.

As usual when presented with free food, he wasted no time scooping up 3 sausage rolls in one precise movement. Unfortunately, what he didn't know is that they were fresh out of the oven and extremely hot!!

After realising that he couldn't swallow them whole, he spat them out, seemingly no worse for wear, then went back to trying to salvage the pastry crumbs from the floor.

It wasn't until 4-5 hours later, after our poor little boy's breathing became very laboured and he was clearly showing signs of distress, that we realised he needed the urgent attention of a Vet.

Unfortunately, by this time it was the wee hours of Sunday morning and our only option for Vet care was the Animal Emergency Centre in Frankston.

The staff confirmed for us that his throat had suffered significant burns as a result of the hot food and that it was now swelling, obstructing his airway :(

Angus was intubated and kept overnight to allow him to breathe. The next morning, thinking that his swelling may have subsided, the Vet removed his breathing tube and he quickly turned blue!

It was decided that an emergency tracheotomy surgery (an incision in the windpipe) was required. Thankfully this stabilised him again and allowed him to breathe.

The Vets and nurses at AEC Frankston have been fantastic and we're very grateful to them for saving our little man. But as many of you will know, Emergency veterinary care is very expensive and Angus has a lot of recovering to do.

After completing construction of our new home earlier in the year and saving every last remaining dollar for our upcoming wedding (4 weeks away!), we are stuck with the reality that what's left of our wedding funds will be spent getting our Angie the care he needs.

Anyone of you who have your own pets knows that it is never a question of whether to spend money on your fur babies, just "how much is it going to cost".

We're hoping you might be able to help us save our wedding, as well as our baby!

*** UPDATE - DAY 2 ***

We've managed to get Angus to our regular vet today and they're now investigating whether he might have aspirated some of the food, which has developed in to pneumonia. His oxygen levels were at 62% when he arrived at the emergency centre, which means he was very close to death!

He's struggling really hard to talk and bark like he usually does (just a raspy little wheeze at this stage) but thankfully he is now drinking small amounts of water and eating tiny mouthfuls of boiled chicken.

The bill for day 1 at the emergency centre came in and as expected, the cost is huge (see below).

Thank you all so much for the kindness you've showed us so far.

Angus is certainly not out of the woods yet and every single dollar counts but we appreciate every one of you, more than words can express!
