Help Us Save a Steer and Sheep That Need an Immediate Home!

At Rancho Compasión, we provide a home to previously neglected, exploited, and abused farm animals in Nicasio, California. We open our non-profit sanctuary to a growing number of rescued animals with the support of compassionate family and volunteer caretakers.

We have the opportunity to adopt two new animals into our family but we need your help!

Every new animal we rescue unfortunately comes with lots of additional costs, such as visits with a veterinarian, transport, and ongoing costs of feed and care. The more money we raise the more animals we can save!

Louie, a two-year old steer, was originally being raised to be sold for meat by a high-school student involved with the Future Farmers of America (FFA). The student fell in love with Louie and had a change of heart, and couldn’t part with him once she brought Louie to the fair for the show and auction. Unfortunately, the fair had strict rules that Louie had become their property as soon as she brought him to the fair, but she was not going to give up on Louie! So she and her sister went through quite an ordeal with the fair, but in the end managed to save Louie from slaughter and bring him home!  Now she is heading off to college, and wants Louie to be able to continue a life full of love and freedom. That’s where Rancho steps in – we are planning to adopt Louie into our animal herd where he can continue to live a good life.

Louie is described as “a little spunky but a huge lover who wants nothing but scratches and hugs!” Might sound familiar to those of you that have met our young cow Angel!  Angel is sure to be excited to have Louie’s company, especially after the recent sad loss of our other cow Ericka.

At the same time, Rancho was contacted about a beautiful young Barbados sheep that was found as a stray and brought to Sonoma County Animal Services. We’re still learning about this beautiful sheep but are having her checked by a veterinarian and are hoping to be able to be able to adopt her into the Rancho family as well!

We hope that this sheep would be an ideal companion for Joon, our sole sheep at Rancho, who happens to also be a Barbados sheep. We originally adopted Joon with goat Benny, who we sadly lost to cancer last year. The two of them were inseparable friends and their interspecies love for each other lives on in our logo.

Please donate whatever you can to help us provide a loving home for these two, as well as many more!
