Hi everyone,
Chikis is a 1.5-year-old puppy living in Sayulita, Mexico, with a family who survives on about $7 a day. On Saturday, December 20th, Chikis was struck and run over by a motorcycle, suffering catastrophic injuries, including both hips being broken and more than seven fractures across both of her legs.
Despite unimaginable pain, Chikis has shown an incredible will to live. Since the accident, she has remained in good spirits, moving herself forward using only her front legs and refusing to give up.
Because all local veterinary clinics were closed on Sunday, we brought Chikis in first thing Monday morning, alongside her owner, to be examined by Fabian, a local veterinarian. After a thorough assessment and a long conversation with her owner, Fabian confirmed that Chikis has a real chance at survival, largely because of her strength and determination, despite the complexity of her injuries.
Chikis is currently undergoing a six-hour emergency surgery to save her life. She will then require at least three months of intensive care and recovery for her hips and legs to heal.
Fabian has generously agreed to perform the surgery immediately without upfront payment, knowing that waiting would greatly reduce Chikis’ chances of survival. The total cost of surgery and follow-up care is over $4,500 CAD, which we are urgently trying to raise to repay the clinic.
Fabian regularly takes in dogs, cats, and other domestic animals in need, often providing life-saving care without immediate payment. We want to support him just as he is supporting Chikis.
Our hope is to raise enough funds to cover Chikis’ medical expenses, repay the clinic as quickly as possible, and give this brave little dog the life she deserves.
Any contribution, big or small, means the world to Chikis and to all of us trying to help her survive. Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support.
