My sister Alix spent more than 20 years building Modern Relics, her beloved San Francisco jewelry shop, working atelier, and gallery. She built this magical space with so much love and passion, one piece at a time, with her own hands.

On August 13th 2026, her beautiful space was violently burglarized and ransacked. Her cherished antique display cases were smashed, all of her antique treasures found throughout her life were destroyed, and the shop and studio were left in ruins.

The thief took every piece of jewelry Alix had created, along with her gemstones, tools, all of her precious materials, and 20 years worth of original hand carved castings. On top of it all, Alix had also recently invested thousands of dollars in gold to continue creating new work, which was all taken.

This was not simply a store front. It was not simply inventory. It was Alix’s life’s work. Decades of deeply special and personal artistry, craftsmanship, experimentation, and painstakingly accumulated materials. The financial loss is in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, but the emotional and creative loss is truly incomprehensible and could never be quantified.

Because specialized insurance for a jewelry studio came with costs and restrictions that did not fit the way Alix ran her small, independent business, this devastating loss was uninsured.

I am creating this fundraiser because so many people in her incredible tight knit community have asked how they can help, and because Alix should not have to face the aftermath of this alone.

What your contribution will help make possible

Funds raised will help Alix:

• Clean, clear, and repair the extensively damaged shop

• Replace broken cases, furnishings, tools, and essential studio equipment

• Install stronger security to protect the space moving forward

• Reopen the gallery and create a new, sustainable chapter for Modern Relics

Although the Modern Relics cannot be recreated exactly as it was, Alix hopes the space can have a new life and become something beautiful again. A working studio space and shop, where Alix can display her new found love for clay work and pottery. A space for community, a gallery where artists can exhibit their work, hold pop-up shows, and lead creative gatherings and classes. From beading and jewelry-making, to clay work, and other forms of hands-on art.

The first priority will be repairing and securing the space and restoring Alix’s ability to work. As those needs are met, additional funds will help prepare the gallery for the magic that Alix’s community knows she brings to any space she touches.

This fundraiser cannot not replace everything that was stolen. It cannot recreate 20 years of original hand carved castings or return family heirlooms or the one-of-a-kind pieces Alix made. But it can give her the foundation to begin again and help transform a place of devastation and trauma back into a place of beauty, connection, and creativity.

For two decades, Modern Relics was far more than a store. It was an extraordinary space filled with handmade jewelry, antique objects, artwork, and the unmistakable spirit of its creator.

She felt safe in a quiet, residential neighborhood. She was what people referred to as a “hidden treasure”. Only upon entering did one see that it was a jewelry gallery and studio. The shop windows cleverly keeping the mystery of the precious jewels away from sight.

Alix’s jewelry has marked marriages, birthdays, anniversaries, milestones, and memories. She has supported other artists, brought beauty to her neighborhood, and welcomed countless people into the magical world she created.

The response to Alix’s announcement has been overwhelming. Thousands of people have shared their heartbreak, memories, and love for Modern Relics. This campaign offers that community a meaningful way to help her move forward.
