We Fought to Reclaim a Historic Landmark. Now We’re Restoring It.
The Tempe Woman’s Club has been serving this community since 1913. Our adobe clubhouse—built in 1936 at Mill Avenue and 13th Street—has long been a symbol of civic action, service, and local pride.
Then, in 2017, it was taken from us.
A former club president used her leadership role to fraudulently purchase the property through her private LLC, claiming it would help the club through financial hardship. She paid far below market value (just $250,000 for a building worth nearly $1.2 million) and then listed it for private sale at up to $4 million.
But this building doesn’t belong to developers.
It belongs to the club who built it and the community it serves.
So we took action.
We organized. We went to court. We reclaimed our charter and our name. And after years of legal struggle, we won back control of our historic clubhouse.
Now, we need your help to restore it.
Your Donation Will Help Us:
- Repair and reopen the 1936 adobe clubhouse as a community space and home for the Tempe Woman’s Club
- Provide resources and support for Tempe citizens in need
- Partner with local nonprofits to deliver food for the unhoused and provide donations to women in recovery and victims of domestic violence and sexual assault
- Continue the club’s mission of civic service that’s lasted more than 130 years
In 2024 alone, we:
- Completed 160 community projects
- Donated 4,800 hours of volunteer service
- Delivered $30,000 in goods and raised $18,000 for local causes
And we did all this without a permanent home. Just imagine what we can do with one again.
