Help Us Replace Air Conditioning to Our Desert Home

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jennifer, and I live in Thousand Palms, California, with my husband of 32 years. We’ve lived in our home for the past 15 years and never imagined we’d be in a position to ask for help. But this summer, our HVAC system completely broke down—and we’re reaching out for support as we try to raise funds for a new one.

We live in the Coachella Valley, where summer temperatures regularly soar past 115 degrees—and have already hit 118 this year. Our home’s HVAC system was original to the house (2001) and has fully failed. The outside unit needs a new compressor, the attic unit's coils are rusted and some pipes are leaking and the ductwork has disintegrated. We were given a few estimates to replace the 4-ton unit and re-duct the home all ranging from $17,000 to $22,000. Unfortunately, we simply can’t afford this on our own.

Due to seasonal changes, my hours at work were recently cut, making it harder to stretch the paycheck to paycheck. My husband and I also own a small business—a wedding chapel—that has been struggling to stay afloat in this economy and social climate.

Stephen is a proud man, and asking for help like this is one of the hardest things we’ve ever had to do. We’ve always tried our best to take care of things ourselves, but at this point, we’ve run out of options—and we can’t do this alone.

Right now, we’re surviving with a small portable AC that barely cools our bedroom. We spend most of our time out out of the home in the day and when home, nearly all our time in that one room just to stay safe. We can’t use most of our home, cook meals, or even work from home anymore. It’s taken a serious toll on both our mental and physical health, and we’re now spending even more money trying to stay cool outside the house.

Any amount you are able to give will bring us closer to restoring some comfort and dignity back into our lives. We are deeply grateful for every donation, every share, and every kind word. Your help would mean relief, stability, and hope in this incredibly difficult time.

From the bottom of our hearts—thank you.
