UPDATE 06.19.24 — Luce is schedule for surgery this Friday to remove both her ears due to squamous cell cancer. They will also be removing all her teeth since they are rotting and causing infections in her mouth. While they have her in surgery, they will most likely laser part of her nose since it has traces of cancer as well. She will be hospitalized at the vet from Thursday evening till Saturday.
***Raising money for her treatment, vet bills, & hopefully bringing her back to Canada to be adopted eventually***
Yesterday we drove from Rome to Amalfi on a whim and I had this strong urge to check out this hotel that we had seen online. When we arrived at the hotel, we immediately saw a cat in horrible condition sleeping on a bench.
We knew right away that something was wrong - her tail was cut in half, her right ear was partly missing and bleeding, and her mouth was so swollen she could barely eat.
She was so sweet and affectionate and trusted us right away. We knew we couldn’t just leave her there so we found a box to try to take her to the nearest vet. We drove around town until we finally found a vet that was open…
The vet confirmed what we already knew - she was definitely a girl; severely dehydrated & underweight (only 2.8kg). Her ear could possibly be a cancerous tumour or melanoma from sun exposure. She also has a mouth & respiratory infection which makes it difficult to eat and she can’t meow properly. He said there’s also a possibility she’s pregnant
We did an ultrasound & an x-ray but it was hard to tell if she was pregnant or not; it could be too soon. We got her different antibiotics for the various infections that we’ll be giving her for the next 10 days.
We left the vet, got her a new carrier, some food, toys, & litter and took her back to our hotel. You’re safe now sweet girl ❤️ Here’s to a chance at life
