In 2019, the members of Galway Bay Sailing Club raised over €4,500 to buy and install a defibrillator at Renville Pier for the use of our local community.
Since then, it has quietly sat in place, patiently waiting in case it was ever needed.
On Sunday, August 17th this year, that moment came.
A 14-year-old casualty was brought ashore, and thanks to the swift actions of a local first responder and the availability of this community defibrillator , that young person’s life was saved.
This story reminds us of the true value of community effort. The defibrillator, funded by voluntary and business donations in 2019, proved instrumental in saving this young persons life life.
Now, to ensure it continues to stand ready, we wish to replace the current unit with a modern, more reliable and maintainable model.
The cost of replacement is €1,600, and once again we are appealing to our community, friends, and the wider public for support. Any additional funds raised about this amount will be used for training and future servicing of the unit (battery and pad replacement etc.)
Every contribution, big or small, will help us make sure this vital piece of equipment is always ready — sitting patiently until the next time it may be needed.
Please donate today and help us keep Renville Pier and our community safe.
Thank you for your support.
