Minehead Barbarians RFC is more than just a rugby club; it is a hub for our community, a home for local athletes of all ages, and a welcoming space for visitors. To keep our players, spectators, and neighbours safe, we are raising money to replace our aging defibrillator (AED) with a brand-new, reliable unit. The Cost of the Unit is £1160 with additional required for Installation. Our goal is £1500 in total to cover all costs.
Why This Matters: The Rural Reality
In a cardiac emergency, every second is the difference between life and death. For Minehead, the stakes are even higher due to our geography:
The Golden Hour: When someone suffers a cardiac arrest, their chances of survival drop by 10% for every minute that passes without defibrillation.
The Distance Factor: Our nearest major hospital is 26 miles away. In a rural setting, emergency response times can be impacted by distance and traffic, making on-site life-saving equipment our first and most important line of defense.
Rugby & Physical Stress: High-intensity sports naturally put more strain on the heart. Having an AED on site ensures that we are prepared for the unthinkable.
The Power of an AED
The statistics are clear: performing CPR alone gives a casualty a survival chance of around 9%. However, using a defibrillator within the first 3–5 minutes of collapse can increase survival rates to over 70%.
How You Can Help
Our current unit needs replacing to ensure it is ready to work the moment it is needed. The cost of a new unit is £1,160. While that is a specific figure, the peace of mind it provides to our parents, players, and fans is unmeasurable.
Donate: Every £1 goes directly into the fund. No amount is too small.
Share: If you aren't in a position to donate, please share this link with your friends, family, and local businesses.
We hope we never have to use it—but we must ensure it’s there if we do. Thank you for supporting the Minehead Barbarians and helping us keep our community safe.
