For over 15 years, the children at St Saviour’s Pre-School and Nursery in St Albans have enjoyed countless hours of fun, adventure, and learning on our much-loved climbing frame. It has been a central part of our garden – a space that isn’t just for our nursery, but is shared and enjoyed by the whole St Saviour’s Church community.
Now, after years of joy and play, our climbing frame has reached the end of its life. We are looking to raise £3,000 to replace it with a new, open-ended climbing structure that offers exciting opportunities for physical exploration, imaginative role play, and social interaction.
Why It Matters
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) recognises the importance of gross motor skills – like climbing, balancing, jumping, and swinging – in young children's development. These skills support coordination, strength, and confidence, and also lay the foundation for handwriting, self-care, and classroom readiness.
An open, flexible climbing frame gives children the chance to build resilience, test their boundaries safely, and develop physical and social skills through creative play. Whether it’s a mountain to climb, a pirate ship to steer, or a den to hide in, this new frame will provide endless learning opportunities.
Why We Need Your Help
Unfortunately, funding for early years education is at an all-time low. The funding we receive barely covers the essentials. There is little left for big-ticket items like outdoor equipment.
We believe every child deserves access to a safe and inspiring outdoor space, and we’re asking for your help to make that possible. Your donation, big or small, will directly support the physical and emotional wellbeing of the children in our care—and those in the wider St Saviour’s community.
Please consider donating or sharing this page with friends, family, and local supporters. Together, we can build something amazing for our children.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity,
