We are the Western Titans BMX Club, a small volunteer-run BMX club based in Clydebank in the West of Scotland.
We are the oldest of the 3 clubs currently racing in BMX in Scotland and host a number of racing events every year. We have nationally ranked riders amongst our members, 6 of whom have qualified to compete in the World Championships in Brisbane in 2026.
Our race track is open all year round, 24/7, allowing children from the local community and further afield to visit the track, stay exercised, and be diverted from negative influences such as youth disorder and anti social behaviour. This constant use of the track, as well as the effects of our Scottish weather, has been an ongoing challenge for the club volunteers who spend hours per week, working on the track to keep it in the best possible condition for our users. Despite this, every track requires cyclical repairs carried out which are too expensive for the club to afford and are beyond the skill set of our volunteers. In recent months, tarmac sections of our bends/corners have deteriorated to the extent that they are becoming unusable. If they are not repaired in the near future, the track could face potential closure, which would be a disaster in our mission to keeping children on bikes and off the streets.
We have received estimates for the necessary track repair work and need to raise in the region of £10,000 to allow us to carry on our club and regional activities and keep the safe for the riders.
We have been actively seeking funding from a number of sources including the local council, but due to the cuts in local authority spending, we have been told no money is available to help us.
We would also be grateful for any assistance that you, the reader, might be able to give us. We appreciate that times are tough financially across the board, and we thank you in advance for anything you can afford to help us to keep our small club alive, supporting BMX and cycling in general in the West of Scotland.
