My husband Ryan and I have owned our home in Maryville, TN since 2023. Recently, we discovered a major issue with our sewer system that has turned our lives upside down. While remodeling a bathroom for our renters downstairs, we found that raw sewage was leaking from under their bathtub. This wasn’t the first time—the problem had happened before when Ryan’s parents lived here, but we didn’t know the full extent until now. When we removed the tub, we found mold and rot underneath. A plumber tore up the concrete and revealed that our entire sewer line was made of cracked clay pipes, causing years of water and sewage damage throughout the house.

This emergency has made our renters’ unit completely uninhabitable, and our main bathrooms and water supply are also unusable. Our renters are currently out of town for a few days, but when they return, we’ll need to provide temporary housing for them since they don’t have family nearby. One of them works at the local hospital, so stable housing is especially important. The funds we raise will go directly toward replacing the entire sewer line, repairing the damage, remediating mold, and covering temporary housing for our renters while the work is completed.
