My fiancé Mike and I have always tried to make the best of every situation, but this year has tested us in ways we never imagined. Mike is battling a terminal blood disease, and I suffer from hemiplegic migraines that make daily life unpredictable. We’re both in the process of applying for disability, but the wait has been long and uncertain. About five months ago, we had to leave our home of six years because we simply couldn’t afford the rent anymore. Since then, we’ve been living in our car, doing our best to get by while our children stay safe and cared for with their aunt.

We found ways to make ends meet by working as delivery drivers, using what we earned to pay for hotel rooms when we could. But when spring break hit, hotel prices skyrocketed, and we had to start spending weekends in the car to save money. Our plan was to keep pushing forward, but this week, our car broke down completely—the right passenger axle, rotor, and brake system all failed at once. Thankfully, it happened in a parking lot and not on the road. A friend’s mechanic offered to fix it for much less than any shop, but it’s still more than we have right now.

We’re reaching out in hope for a little kindness and for people to share our story. If you’re able to help us repair our car, it would mean the world to us.
