This house of worship was built back in the 18th century by Tountouroun's founding families.
In 2017, a renovation project was kicked off with the aim of restoring this jewel and renovating it to accommodate more worshippers. As children of Tountouroun, a sub-prefecture of Labe located in the Republic of Guinea, we have watched our elders take their hard-earned money and consistently contribute towards this project. Right now, we are kindly asking all of you to help.
This project is dear to so many. This mosque not only has a rich history, but it is also part of our heritage. Being so far away, we are always thinking of the different ways we can help. Upon reaching out to our elders, the message was clear, and we are excited to help hit the $100,000 goal.
Yup, that’s a lot of money! So far, we have raised 374,038,000 GNF = USD$37,784.68. This amount was raised across the world from different associations of Tountouroun alongside their friends/supporters. It is important to note that we are working as we go, as you will see from these images - so any contribution made will be used right away!
Our goal is to raise $10,000 during the month Ramadan.
The money will be sent to Tountouroun’s own, Elhadj Alpha Oumar Sow who was voted in as Project Manager. Not only has he been overseeing this project from its beginning, he has since been transparent every step of the way by sharing updates with its habitants and donors. We too will share updates with you all as we get them!
Funds will be used towards (but not limited to) the following:
- Wall finish
- Inspection costs
- Workforce costs
- Additional cement purchase
- Round wood
One thing this pandemic has taught us is how fleeting this world or “dunya” can be, and as our Prophet PBUH advised, it is crucial we pose acts of “Sadaqah Jariyah” meaning it counts as an act of charity you will continue to receive rewards for even in the Hereafter.
The Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever builds a mosque for the sake of Allah, like a sparrow's nest for Allah or even smaller, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise."
It's the holy month of Ramadan, and aside from fasting, one of the most important aspect is taking part in acts of charity. Therefore, we, descendants of Tountouroun have come together to create this page to tell you all about this project and hopefully get you on board!
