Help us fix up Jose's home

I'm Jeff, and I'm fundraising for Jose Cruz, a fellow teammate at BHHS Fox & Roach Realtors, who was left with extensive injuries after a near-fatal motorcycle crash. He had purchased his first home --a fixer-upper --less than a month earlier and was renovating it to make it his own. However, his injuries have left him unable to walk and work.

The 24-year-old from Philadelphia is a Realtor, an employee of Drexel University and a hardworking, kind-hearted man.

On October 22, Jose left home for a late-night motorcycle ride that would change his life forever. He was traveling down Roosevelt Boulevard at 45-50 mph when he hit a large bump and lost control of his bike. He ended up landing in the middle of the far left lane of the highway, only able to move his hand that he waved furiously in the dark, praying he could get the attention of passing drivers before a car ran him over. Fortunately, a kind soul stopped to help. That unknown person and Jose's helmet saved his life.

Jose is now at Jefferson University Hospital and has undergone six surgeries, with more to come. He has extensive leg, arm, shoulder, pelvis, and hip injuries. Jose can't move one of his legs and isn't sure he'll ever be able to walk normally again. Once he leaves the hospital, he will be sent to a rehabilitation facility.

To make matters worse, once Jose is eventually discharged, he won't have a place to go unless we help him. Jose had begun renovations so he could move in when his apartment lease ended in December. Since he cannot walk and needs to focus on his physical recovery, I'm hoping Jose's friends, family, co-workers, and kind strangers can help with the home's renovation so this young man can return to a safe, clean and functional house.

The work that needs to be done includes

*Electrical upgrades

*Bathroom upgrades

*Minor sanding/painting of current kitchen cabinets

*New kitchen counter/backsplash and appliances

*Refinish floors, lay laminate floor

*Fix plaster walls and paint
