This week, central Portugal was hit by a severe storm (Kristin Depression) that caused major damage and, tragically, several deaths.

We were incredibly lucky — our home survived, but not without consequences. Several trees were damaged, roof tiles were displaced, and rain is still entering our living room. During a brief pause in the wind, we had to climb onto the roof to reposition tiles just to limit further damage.

Our biggest concern is a palm tree over 16 meters tall, located right next to our house. During the storm, large branches fell both onto our property and into our neighbour’s yard. Thankfully, the palm tree itself did not fall — but it remains an immediate and serious danger.

If this tree falls, it could cause severe damage to our home, neighbouring houses, or worse — put lives at risk.

Unfortunately, removing it safely is expensive. Due to its height and location, the job requires professional equipment, including a lift platform, and must be done by specialists. At the same time, we are already under heavy financial strain:

we are restoring this house while still paying rent for an apartment elsewhere.

That’s why we are asking for help.

Every contribution — big or small — will go directly toward safely removing this palm tree and protecting our family and neighbours.
