Today, May 10th 2021, marks the last day of a beautiful life. He held many titles; brother, son, father, friend, confidante, O’side bunny hopper. To me he was always the cool, oldest brother who I looked up to in awe. He influenced the music I listened to, books I read, and movies and shows I became obsessed with. He took me to the first Lord of the Rings movie and we made it sort of a tradition to go to all the following movies together. I would search for his face at my little birthday parties when we gathered around the cake before I blew out the candles. I jumped up when I’d hear him call “Chaneh”, his nickname for me. I would tell him my problems and share my poetry with him and listened intently when he gave me advice. I remember quite vividly him telling me I made a witty remark but can’t for the life of me remember what I said. It didn’t matter; he confirmed that I was funny, he saw who I was and he made me feel like I mattered in the sea of little brothers and sisters. Quick witted, charismatic, loving and bold, he was always willing to help out. He would give you the shirt off his back. I am sure most people would agree with that description. That he gave so much of himself to others that it hindered him. I would watch him withdraw and shut people out when he had spent too much... everything . He battled demons most of us could never endure or comprehend. Alcoholism is an insidious disease and what took him from us. Struggling to make up the loses he sustained, he fought to get sober and reclaim his life. In the end he lost that fight. We can’t say he didn’t try despite the pain, he gave it his all, even the shirt off his back. 46 years of life is not long but it was enough to impact those whose lives he touched. In remembrance of him and his life, we ask for any contribution you may feel in your heart to give to help with a memorial service this weekend. To celebrate the good times, the laughter, the comfort and warmth he lent to the room in his presence and the friendships he built over years. He leaves behind; parents Lydia and Chris, five siblings Ruben, Christine, Brian, Tracy and Roxy, one son Jesse and daughter in law Terryn and his two grandchildren, Sawyer and Sutton, as well as countless friends and acquaintances.
