Help Us Remain Housed While Looking for Apartment
Hello Friends and Supporters:
Like so many others, the building that my Adult daughter and I lived in was sold in July.

We were only given a verbal notice, and had to ask for Relocation Assistance, which was not only severely inadequate (we only have enough to pay a deposit. Barely.), we didn't receive it until AFTER we had vacated our unit. We are currently in a motel that I only thought we were going to be in for ten days, as I thought we were going to get an apartment that ended up going to someone else. So far, we have applied for several apartments, paid multiple (one for each adult applicant) application fees, have not been accepted for anything, and are still looking diligently for an apartment in the South Bay area of Los Angeles County. We are trying to remain relatively near Gardena/Hawthorne/Lawndale, as my daughter's college program (currently free) and work are in the area.
Where we need assistance is in replacing what we have had to spend out of our Relocation Assistance so that we can have an adequate Deposit (those of us with challenged credit are often asked to have additional money for a deposit), and a way to cover moving expenses, utility connection and other miscellaneous costs that may occur with a move, as well as helping to cover our living expenses until we can find an actual apartment (motel rent, food toiletries, etc.)
The number above is the amount I had initially requested in Relocation Assistance. To say that I got FAR less than that was an understatement. I had to spend into that amount to fund our current motel stay, to the point that all I have left is a bare-bones minimum deposit on a modest two-bedroom apartment.
Thank all who have contributed so far to our maintenance! I never thought it would go on for this long. And it is clearly going to go on for a bit longer, unfortunately.
