The time has come to relocate our West San Jose feral cat colony. This is a tough decision because it will be very difficult to re-trap and move them from the only environment they’ve ever known. There are a couple of reasons that forced us to make the relocation decision.
1. New development has begun just behind their habitat, and there is a short window to relocate them before they scatter and do not return to feed.
2. The environment has become unsafe for us to feed them. For whatever reason, many more homeless people are hanging out where we feed. Most are harmless and very pleasant folks who just landed on hard times. But occasionally there is someone who has severe issues. So being there is not safe for kitties or feeders.
My friend, Lynda, and I have been TNRing (trap, neuter, release) cats in West San Jose for many years. We’ve trapped and released at least 40 in the last few years. We’ve always been associated with and supported by Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary. Unfortunately Safe Haven is closing their doors, so we are attempting this big move on our own.
We are going to relocate three kitties: Holly, Ivy, and Mister. They will be relocated to The Cathouse on the Kings to live out the reminder of their lives. This it will cost $2350 per kitty. If you’d like to make a contribution to help this effort, any amount will be greatly appreciated.
I hope you enjoy the pictures of our wonderful colony. We started out with seven kitties, although we trapped about twelve. Some didn’t return to feed after being released. We found three kittens that we were able to socialize and adopt. We lost Jeffie when he was killed by a car. And this summer we lost J.J., Sally, and Manxie.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
