Help Us Relocate After My 7-Year-Old Daughter Was Shot in Our Home

My name is Dasia, and I am a mother of three asking for help during one of the most terrifying moments my family has ever experienced.

On Monday morning around 2:30 AM, our home was caught in a drive-by shooting. More than 70 shots were fired, and my 7-year-old daughter, Blessyn, was shot in her leg while inside our home.

The intended target was not my family. The shooting was connected to the neighbors attached to our home. But my children and I were the ones caught in the gunfire. We were literally trying to take cover and avoid bullets inside the place that was supposed to be our home and our safe space.

By the grace of God, my daughter survived, and no one else in our family was physically shot. But the fear and trauma this has caused my children is something I cannot put into words.

My kids have begged me not to take them back home. They are scared that if we return, the shooters will come back and next time someone may not survive.

What makes this even more frightening is that this is not the first shooting involving that neighboring unit. There have been multiple incidents, including a previous woman who lived there being struck in the chest. Despite the history of violence and what has now happened to my child, I have been told by the rental office that they will not relocate my family to another unit and that I can move on my own.

So that is what I am desperately trying to do.

I am raising money to get my three children out of this environment and into a safe home as quickly as possible. We currently do not have another permanent place to go, and relocating unexpectedly comes with expenses I was never financially prepared to handle all at once.

* Security deposit and first month’s rent for a new home

* Moving and transportation expenses

* Replacing necessities affected by the shooting

* Expenses related to my daughter’s recovery and immediate needs

* Helping us rebuild some sense of safety and stability for my children

I don’t like having to ask for help, but right now my children’s safety has to come before my pride.

My baby was shot inside her own home at only 7 years old. I cannot bring my children back there and tell them everything will be okay when I cannot guarantee that another shooting won’t happen.

We aren’t asking for anything extravagant. We just need somewhere safe to live.
