Help us Regenerate Mangroves & Nature
Donation protected
Hi, we are raising funds to plant mangroves in Mombasa's (Kenya) Mkupe area. This area had been previously a mangrove haven but was desecrated as development took over. We are working closely with the community here to restore it to its previous glory and so that it can once again become a healthy habitat for fish, crabs, baby sharks and birds.
Mangroves are important to our city as they protect us from storms, are home to several marine and wildlife species, absorb 10x more carbon then normal forests - which is much needed in Mombasa as we are struggling with pollution. Also, they are so calming to look at! :)
All our planters are youth volunteers from Mombasa who we wish to inspire to become the next generation of environmentalists. Our planting events are fun, engaging, educative and inspiring - everything we need to keep the youth involved!
The funds will be used for:
- To purchase mangrove seedlings. We source them from the fishermen community to boost their income that has been affected due to the pandemic.
- To look after the seedlings up until maturity when they can be left to grow and thrive on their own in the wild.
- To engage the school children from the community in mangrove planting and teach them about climate change.
We aim to plant 10,000 mangroves to initiate a forest and have meaningful impact!
